Tree Topping
Deciding whether or not to top a tree really depends on your long-term objectives. It may be possible to achieve those objectives through thinning, windowing, safety pruning or even removal.
We generally do not recommend topping - though it may be necessary in some cases. Topping can change a tree's growth pattern, often ruining its natural beauty and causing long-term problems. In some types of trees, topping can eventually kill the tree.
